Dry needling therapy provides long term relief for acute and chronically tight, painful muscles. Progress can be felt in as soon as the first therapy session.
Scientific evidence backed dry needling therapy efficacy for chronic pain; proving its accountability to provide real, permanent relief.
Think of a hose. If you kink that hose, less water comes out, right? The same is true with a nerve. Your muscle spasms "kink" the flow to your nerves. The nerve then becomes malnourished.
Malnourished nerves cause palpable painful "knots" or trigger points. Our dry needling techniques painlessly targets the affected area, releasing it almost immediately.
Dry needling naturally restores overall function by desensitizing super sensitive structures through needling. The process is painless for most cases and unlike medication, absolutely no dangerous after effects.
1. Targets stretch receptors in your muscle, resulting in an immediate relaxation of the muscle.
2. Causes a microtrauma in the muscle which brings blood to the area and helps it heal - faster.
3. Stimulates proper electrical current flow through the nerve, further helping it to heal.
The result: an immediate reduction of muscle spasm, skin and joint pain, and increase in joint range.

How does dry needling work?
Dry needling releases tight muscle and relive pressure on tendons, joints and nerves by inserting fine needles into the muscle. This activates the muscle's reflexes leading to relaxation, better blood circulation and restoration of normal function.
Both use fine needles. Acupuncture’s needle placement is define according to Eastern Medicine principles while dry needling core philosophies lies on understanding of the human anatomy and neurology. The process of IMS works to diagnose and treat the pain from its neuropathic origin.
I’ve had acupuncture before. How will this be different?
The number of treatments required depends on an individual’s condition. Generally, if the pain or injury is recent, it may only need 2 therapy sessions. Factors like age and general health status may affect the length of treatment too. Typically dry needling therapy is performed once every 2 weeks.
How many treatments do I need?
Upon treatment, tiny aching sensation might be felt when the needle is inserted into the affected muscles. The treatments are fairly short and for most cases, it is generally painless afterward but some patients may experience soreness for a day or two after their therapy.
Is it going to be painful?

I had a recommendation to see Cody at the Oakville clinic for treatment on my back. When I started, I could hardly move. Cody was able to quickly assess my problems and after a few sessions, I was able to move freely and resume my normal activities. Cody set me up with ongoing exercises to maintain my back health. I highly recommend Cody to anyone needing physio treatment.
I had a very good experience here at iMove. Mike is a great physiotherapist who opened my eyes to a full body approach of physiotherapy emphasizing on movement and function. He was very good at explaining how connected connected our body is and that it wasn't just a shoulder problem!
Both my husband and I go to iMovie Oakville and we see Kyle. He has been amazing and really helping us with our movement and keeping us going. He has really helped us with our golf swing. We always feel great when we leave and he gives us “Homework“ it really helps in keeping us feeling great.
